If you’re expecting, you’re probably getting more than enough advice about what healthy foods to eat when you’re pregnant. But it can help to know that you should be thinking as much about yourself as your baby when you’re planning a healthy diet during pregnancy.
Of course, your baby eats anything you eat and your diet should include foods that contribute to a growing baby’s development. But your body is going through a number of relatively sudden changes. You’re experiencing different emotions.

Healthy Foods for Pregnant Women
- Dairy Products – Dairy products are a great source of calcium and protein that you and your baby need for bone and muscle development. They also deliver high levels of other nutrients including B vitamins, magnesium, and zinc.
- Legumes – Calcium and protein are important for your baby’s development due to their roles in bone and muscle development. Foods like lentils, beans, and chickpeas are also great sources of vitamin B9 (folate) iron and fibre. And eating legumes has been linked to reducing the risk of some birth defects.
- Sweet Potatoes – While all fruits and vegetables good for you and baby during pregnancy, sweet potatoes deliver some extra goods. They are an excellent source of vitamin A, of which many pregnant women are encouraged to increase their intake.
- Salmon – Among the many benefits of the omega-3 fatty acids in salmon, their advantages for baby’s brain and eye development are particularly important.
- Water – Considering it has relatively little nutrition, water might be the most important thing to do for your baby and yourself. Both of you are mostly water. You are in charge of getting enough for a healthy baby and a healthy pregnancy.
